Ten Shekels and a Shirt – Paris Reidhead, Video Excerpt
This is just a portion of the sermon of the century. If you have not heard this yet…you need to listen to the whole thing. However I though this was a great snippet from the sermon. God save us from flesh ran ministries. God save us from ourselves. I have nothing to add to this message, I can only pass on what I think needs to be heard and heeded.
Out of curiosity how would you reconcile this with Piper’s notion of Christian hedonism? He says “God is MOST glorified when I am SATISFIED in Him.” I like what Piper has to say about these things because I have seen this to be true in my own walk with Him. When I am satisfied in my relationship wit Christ God seems to get more glory naturally as a consequence. I can be satisfied in Christ whether in a season of bounty or hardship but when I abide there is fruit. I don’t know if you have read “Desiring God” but it lays out a great scriptural basis for all that “Christian Hedonism” covers.
As far as I understand “Desiring God.” (I have it on Audio CD, and I still have yet to listen to the whole thing, but I have listened to a lot of that sermon series.) I am not sure there is a conflict between the two. I would suggest that you listen to this whole sermon. Because I don’t think they are talking about the same things.
Primarily in this sermon Paris is talking far more about the problem in Judges with the Priest who was doing what was right in his own eyes, it deals with false religion.
I started listening to Desiring God on audio, and have not been able to finish it.
